Groundwork USA

Groundwork USA (GWUSA) is a national organization committed to neighborhood and community revitalization through urban greening, brownfield redevelopment, restoration of urban waters, promotion of equity and many other means. GWUSA depends upon and leads a number of local non-profits or “trusts” that work “on the ground” to transform distressed communities across the nation. The trusts leverage support from the U.S. EPA Brownfields program and the National Park Service along with public and private resources-engaging  with local businesses, residents and government officials-to support a number of urban greening initiatives.

This report examines the GWUSA model, identifies policy lessons, and makes several policy recommendations relevant to the advancement of urban greening and community development.
